my 18th christmas

why 18th? cause i'm 18 years old this year of course (swt), and i've been through a special christmas eve, one that i never did before this year. i celebrate the christmas with friends in kl . . .

we have plan this a few weeks before x'mas eve, which is make a steamboat dinner by ourselves and stay overnight in kl. actually we stay in a condo in wangsa maju where some of my friends including myself rent it while studying in tar college. since the house is temporarily ours, we use it as a motel for 2 days and 1 night tour in kl, lolx . . .

night of 24th dec, after preparing everything, we start to eat, it's a normal steamboat with normal food, like crabmeat, hotdog, taufu, vege, etc. but it's quite nice and we really enjoying the dinner.
the dinner, on a computer table, lolx

later that night, about 930pm, i go to sungei wang with my national service friends, rarely i went there at night, i know it will be very crowded, still want to go to feel the atmosphere. i reach there about 1030pm, before i get down from bukit bintang monorail station, people down there already gathering all around sg. wang plaza, waiting to countdown. most of the youngsters are holding the coloured-spray thingy and use it not only on their friends, but cars and people walk by also being sprayed. then, we walk to time square through the plaza, shops are closed but people are crowded outside bukit bintang street, traffic mostly crawling and some police patrols are there, keeping people from chaos-ing i think. i witness this before in last year's x'mas, when i was in gurney drive, penang. similar thing in bukit bintang here also . . .

one of the scenes in bukit bintang street, taken from monorail station

i didn't stay there for too long, about 1115pm, i rush back to wangsa maju cause lrt operation time going to end... when i walking from wangsa maju stations back to condo, between the 12 minutes walking, time is 0000hr, which is 25th dec, suddenly can hear people screaming for 'merry christmas'. walk further, a mamak restaurant- brj, currently full i think, cause i see many customers there, guess this is the typical 21st century youngster's culture, having teatime at midnight, not bad, not bad at all . . .

my friends and i have our own way to celebrate - eating junk food while watching tv . . . haha, it's kinda boring. about 2am, 4 persons including me starts playing poker card - 'co dai di', it's quite tired when starts playing, but all of us are getting more and more awake. and so, we play till 6am only stop . . . haha, and wake up 2 hrs later, to have breakfast, lolx . . .

in the afternoon, we go to suria klcc to walk around, read some books in kinokuniya. . . when my dad calls, about 240pm, time of me to go back home, finaly, after staying in kl for 2 days and 1 night. a special x'mas for me . . .

carol singing

carol singing ... first thing that cross my mind is, "i don't know what is that about". i've been ask by my aunt to go with my cousins to participate and take a look since i never heard about it. carol singing is some kind of singing activity perform by groups, mostly organise by christian-youth society, going from door to door during christmas, to wish them the one year festive and to pray for them.

that time i'm in ipoh, the carol singing suppose to be a 3 days programme, but my cousin and myself decide to go on the last day, which is on 21st december. we wear a black t-shirt and jeans which similar to the whole team... when we reach at st. peter church about 4pm, other members are already there, after waiting for a short time and briefing, about a total of 40+ members of st. peter christian youth taking 4 vans to head for the first destination, some other drive themselves, bringing some equipments like guitars, radios and portable speaker.

it is a private hospital, we gather in the lobby and set things up, then at 5pm, i get my lyrics of the songs, and then we start singing, actually i didn't listen to these songs before, so what i do just simply follow the music and pretending, 1st few minutes a bit nervous, but then get used to it already, the whole theme is about before and after the born of jesus. our leader make a short synopsis of the story, a total of ten songs we sing, then include a song that our members perform using sign language -"we are the reason", a very touching song when i first listen, nice...

after half-an-hour singing in the main lobby, we shift to 1st floor and repeat the performance, then the management prepare us some snacks in cafeteria. although not many people watch our performance, we can still get a loud applause from them, that's a very appreciate moment for us, the performers...

at 7pm, we head to next door, a resident's house, belongs to one of the member of the church society. because we have to wait for some other relatives to come, our leaders ask us to have some drinks and food before start singing, again we sing all the songs and wish them merry christmas.

as time continues running, we rush to the next house, at 8pm, then again the next house at 9.20pm. when we completed our carol singing, it's already 10pm... before we going back, our leaders do an ending briefing and thanks for our performance through out the three days of carol singing... (but i only attend for the last day, haha)...

quite a tiring day, yet i get to know of what is carol singing. all the them very enjoy, same thing happens to me... social activity really opens our mind to reality world, always better than staying in house facing games and internet, the virtual world...
